A huge ranch in Southwestern Colorado just hit the market for an astounding $54.7 million, making it one of the most expensive listings in the state. It doesn't quite top William Koch's $89 million estate in Aspen, but the 55,486 deeded acre property listed by Ranch Marketing Associates is one of the largest pieces of property in Colorado and a 2 hour drive from Colorado Springs. Let's take a tour, shall we?
Called Wolf Springs Ranch, the land is currently owned by the eccentric Tom Redmond, the founder of the Aussie brand of hair-care products. When making his millions "Coach" Redmond hated formality and kept a jar of formaldehyde containing the castrated testicles of his prized horse Dan the Man on his desk. This love for horses, Kit Carson, and "the West," prompted Redmond to buy Wolf Springs in 1990 and over time he's gradually added both land, animals, and who knows how much formaldehyde. The ranch now has 400 cattle, 500 buffalo, and 30 horses (not included in the asking price), as well as a 4,100-square-foot house with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. Equestrian types will appreciate the large indoor and outdoor arenas, but despite having at least seven other ranch houses on site, this listing is all about the land. In all, $54.7 million gets you almost 93 square miles in the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Wow.
