Killington Resort's new base village may be tied up in legal challenges, but that's not stopping the Vermont ski area from moving forward on new on-mountain attractions. Like ski areas across the country, Killington is looking to capitalize on summer visitors by building a new $2 million 4,800 foot long Mountain Coaster. The project may not be as large as what Vail has planned for Heavenly or Vail Mountain, but its part of a larger trend of ski areas becoming more than a winter destination.
After a winter full of snow, Killington is currently waiting for the snow to melt so they can begin construction on the summer amenities. The project includes:
· Roller Coaster
· High ropes course
· Zipline
· Interactive maze
All of the attractions will be located near the Snowshed Lodge and the resort hopes to have them up and running before the summer is over, ideally by mid-June. The roller coaster will cost an estimated $2-$3 million and will be open year round for people who are sick of skiing and want a different kind of icy thrill.
