The wheels are rolling on a plan to bring central Ketchum, Idaho a new 155,000-square-foot, five-star hotel called Auberge Resorts: Sun Valley. Developer Jack Bariteau has been working on the $53 million project for over a decade, and after recently partnering with the Auberge Resorts Collection (who also manage Aspen's Hotel Jerome), construction will finally begin in May 2015. It looks like tiny Sun Valley is in a hotel-building boom; the iconic Sun Valley Lodge is also in the midst of a huge renovation. And while we love the Lodge and the Knob Hill Inn (another Essential Ski Town Hotel), the Sun Valley region is definitely lacking in upscale resorts. So what can we expect from the new Auberge Resort, Sun Valley? Let's take a look.
The new hotel (formally called the Hotel Ketchum) will be located at the southeast corner of Main and River streets. Here's what we know so far:
· Construction will begin in May 2015 and will cost $53 million, including the property and outfitting costs.
· There will be between 80 and 90 hotel rooms and 14 residences on the upper floor. Six of the 14 will be top-floor penthouses.
· The residences will be single-level, fully furnished, two or three-bedroom condos available from 1,250 to 2,400 square feet. Residents will have access to a private elevator and two-car underground parking.
· Hotel plans include a restaurant, bar, spa, fitness gym, meeting facilities for 300 people, and heated outdoor swimming pool.
Jack Bariteau is working with San Francisco architecture firm Hornberger + Worstell, designers of the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe and the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Beaver Creek. The project is awaiting building permits and aims to open by late 2017.
