This Friday, the International Olympic Committee will choose between two very different possible host cities for the 2022 Winter Olympics: a Chinese city with little natural snow but tons of Olympic experience, and a little-known former Soviet winter sports resort surrounded by mountains. While Beijing, China remains the favorite in this Olympic showdown, don't count Almaty, Kazakhstan out just yet. Beijing insists that it can make enough snow and provide excellent conditions, but Almaty's "Keeping it Real" campaign centers on images of deep, natural snow.
