A new development at Lake Tahoe's Northstar ski area boasts modern, ski-in/ski-out chalets and the first house just hit the market. That's good news for Bay Area and Tahoe skiers, especially given this year's monster El Niño that's bringing much needed precipitation to the region. Asking $3.1 million and designed by the Bay Area-based Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Mountainside at Northstar's Stellar Residence #3 foregoes clichéd mountain taxidermy in favor of sleek lines and contemporary design. Urban dwellers probably know BCJ as the lead architect for Apple Inc.'s stores worldwide, but we love the firm's modern take on ski classics (just check out this see-through Park City pool). With 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and 3,450 square feet, Residence #3 incorporates whitewashed hickory floors, caesarstone counters, and plenty of high-end finishes. Floor to ceiling windows provide views to the ski slopes at Northstar, and the house also features a great deck with hot tub and fire pit.
