With 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain and a leg-burning vertical drop of 4,139 feet, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is one of the most iconic resorts in the west. And although William O. Owen is credited with the first ascent of the Grand Teton in 1898 and skiing started on nearby Snow King in the late 1930s, construction on Jackson Hole Mountain Resort didn't begin until 1964. Apres Vous Mountain opened in 1965, and a year later the iconic 52-person Jackson Hole Aerial tram took people to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. The mountain looks a little different now compared to its opening days in the 1960s, so let's take a tour through old ski maps to see how things have changed.
A few of the notable changes to look for:
1989: New tram car cabins were installed.
1997: JHMR opened the Teewinot High Speed Quad
1997-1998: The Bridger Center and the Bridger Gondola Opened
2000: The Moose Creek and Union Pass chairlifts were installed
2004: The Crags opened
2005: The Sweetwater Lift was installed
2006-2008: The Aerial Tram was shut down and after two years of construction, a new, $32 million, 100-passenger tram reopened.

So what's next? Be on the lookout for Jackson Hole's new high-speed quad, the Teton Lift, that will debut in the 2015-2016 ski season. Happy skiing!
